Betting Exchange — Back vs Lay Betting
On a betting exchange, you bet against other players rather than against a bookmaker. As a result, odds are generally determined by actual market demand and supply, which is often more favourable than those offered by traditional sportsbooks.
What is a Back Bet?
You believe a team or player will win — so you bet in their favour. This works the same way as a regular sportsbook.
What is a Lay Bet?
You believe a team or player will lose — so you bet against them. You effectively take on the role of the bookmaker.
About Commission
The exchange platform takes a small commission from winning bets. This is typically a set percentage of the winnings — which is often lower than the margin charged by traditional bookmakers.
An Example (in ৳)
| Item | Back Bet | Lay Bet |
|---|---|---|
| Scenario | Bangladesh will win | Bangladesh will lose |
| Your Position | Bettor (supporter) | Layer (bookmaker's role) |
| Bet Amount | ৳1,000 | ৳1,000 |
| Odds | 2.0 | 2.0 |
| If you win | +৳1,000 profit | -৳1,000 liability |
| If you lose | -৳1,000 loss | +৳1,000 profit |
